ALDI entered the Australian market in 2001, introducing Australians to an entirely new way to shop for groceries. The unique business model centred on serving up the highest quality groceries at the lowest prices for Australian households. This mission still holds true today, thanks to an unwavering commitment to delivering Australians the highest quality products at Australia’s lowest prices. From two stores in 2001, to 600 stores in 2025, 88 per cent* of the nation’s population now lives within 20km of an ALDI store.

Bringing the ‘Good Different’ experience to Wright, ACT

Amy Peters, Managing Director, NSW/ACT at ALDI Australia, said: “Our 600th store opening in Wright marks a special milestone in ALDI’s Australian story. We have been delivering shoppers across the country unbeatable value for almost 25 years and we can’t wait for the locals in Wright to experience this for themselves.”

ALDI Wright will offer the local community ALDI’s exclusive range of high-quality products at unbelievably low prices. In true ALDI fashion, the store will be packed with award-winning fresh fruit and vegetables, 100 per cent Australian meat and of course, iconic Special Buys. Customers can feel confident that every item in their trolley is not only great value but top quality too. It’s this guarantee that has contributed to ALDI winning Canstar Blue’s award for Australia’s Most Satisfied Shoppers seven consecutive times!

The spacious location will feature a 1078sqm custom designed store as well as a range of innovations including self-checkouts, a modern interior design and simple layout so customers can easily navigate the savings on offer as well as access to underground parking spaces closely located to the store.

Growing ALDI’s Good Difference in Australia

In 2001, ALDI opened its first two Australian stores. One in Sydney’s inner-west suburb of Marrickville, the other in the outer southwest, near Bankstown Airport. Each store stocked just 600 products, most of which were unknown brands to the Australian public at the time.

“When ALDI first came to Australian shores, Aussie shoppers were completely captivated and intrigued by our business model. From our exclusive branded products to having to pack your own groceries, often at speed! Our customers have embraced our business model and have developed a love for our quality products,” said Jordan Lack, Chief Commercial Officer at ALDI Australia.

“In under 25 years, we have been able to grow our store network to 600 stores, proudly employ more than 17,000 people across the country, support more than 1,000 Australian Business Partners and serve many millions of Australians every day – and we’re just getting started!” continued Mr Lack.

For the past seven consecutive years, ALDI Australia has been recognised as an Employer of Choice by the Australian Business Awards which celebrates organisations with an employee-first mindset.

“Our employees are the heart and soul of our business. They work tirelessly day in and day out to bring our shoppers the high-quality, low-priced groceries they love. Our growth in the Australian market is a direct reflection of their dedication and hard work,” said Mr Lack.

Championing Australian Products and Partnerships

Wright customers will have access to ALDI’s exclusive branded products which have been carefully developed with our network of more than 1,000 Australian Business Partners.

“From the Aussie farmers who grow our award-winning fresh produce to the coffee roasters who prepare our internationally recognised Lazzio beans in the heart of Melbourne, our long-standing relationships with our partners are all about mutual benefit and growth,” says Mr Lack.

“We have seen first-hand the scale at which some of our Business Partners have been able to expand thanks to our long-standing relationships. It is something we are especially proud of since opening our first stores and forming these connections over 24 years ago. Our 600th store opening simply would not have been possible, if it weren’t for our strong network of Business Partners and their commitment to developing the award-winning products ALDI shoppers know and love.”

Wright locals are set to be amongst the growing cohort of Australian shoppers who are increasingly coming to ALDI, seeking greater everyday value. New data reveals that 3.7 per cent more** Australian households are now shopping at ALDI. That’s new customers coming to ALDI for the first time. On top of that, existing customers are also increasing the frequency of their shops at ALDI.

“We’re seeing more and more Aussies shopping at ALDI. They come in for price but stay for the quality. That’s a testament to our incredible team who work across our Store and DCs along with the support of our Business Partners who help create great products people love.” Lack continued.

The Wright store will be open for business from 8:30am, Saturday 31st May.
